Reviewing The Gillette Venus & Olay Razor

For the first time ever, Gillette Venus, a global leader in female shaving, and Olay, a global leader in skincare, are coming together to deliver a gold standard in shaving with the new Gillette Venus & Olay razor. Venus’ best shaving technology works with Olay Moisture Bars, offering women best-of-both-worlds shaving and skin expertise. Olay Moisture Bars help lock-in moisture to your skin for less dryness, and with every smoothing stroke, Venus’ five blades shave you close.

Product Details

    The Test:

With being bundled up during the winter and recovering from having my daughter late December, my legs had been terribly neglected. So what a perfect way to maintain them by using the new Gillette Venus razors I got!

At first glance, I was a bit apprehensive with the phrase "5 blades". Wow, that sounded like so much and yelled "You're going to cut yourself!" I remember getting razors with 2 blades and that freaked me out! The packaging was in a plastic container that was embellished in white, gold and blue. I love that the opening of this product was easy because it had a tab to pull which tore along the perforated plastic. Included in the package was a holder for your razor with a suction for you to place in your shower. Assembly was easy by opening the cartridge with the razor then clipping the handle into razor.

The razor was rectangle in shape with rounded edges. In the middle were the 5 bladed and it was surrounded above and below with the Olay moisture bars. One in yellow and the other in white.

The razor smelled of light shea butter and vanilla. The handle had a good grip on it too.

I propped myself onto the counter next to the sink (so I could have view of my active 2 year old son and my 2 month old daughter) and wet my legs. I placed the razor under the tap and I began to see the moisture bars begin to bubble/lather just with water. As I mentioned earlier, I was apprehensive about 5 blades - can we say cutsville? - but I began from above my ankle and worked the razor up towards my knees in small straight strokes. The 5 blades didn't gash into my skin after several strokes so I proceeded to do longer straight strokes, which made the shaving quicker. After 2 to 3 strokes, I would rinse the razors and continued to do the rest of my leg. I could see the moisture bars at work because as I moved the razor away from my skin, you could see the 'sliminess' of the soap in mid air.

When I placed my leg under the faucet and rubbed the soap  off my legs, I could feel how thick the moisture bars had put on my legs from shaving. It felt like how a really good conditioner feels on your hair when you're rinsing. It felt so smooth and luxurious to touch.

After shaving my legs, I felt how smooth and hairless my legs were. I waited around 15-20 min before putting lotion to see how my legs felt after shaving. I personally have dry skin (other than my face) and I noticed that my legs were showing dry spots. It didn't look as moisturized as it would be after applying lotion. I also began to feel parts of my leg feeling itchy but no razor bumps/rash.

Possible concerns of the life of the razor:
    • Will keeping it in the shower deplete the moisture bars?
    • Running the razor under the faucet I was concerned of depleting the moisture bars

Overall, I like this product and gave it 4 stars. It didn't rank at 5 stars because my legs did feel itchy after drying and it wasn't completely moisturized with visible dry spots.

    In short:

Ease of Packaging? easy to open and assemble;a good handle
Shaved? Yes, close shave in most parts with one stroke
Moisturized? Not completely, still needed to apply lotion
Nicks? No but I did feel parts of my leg feel itchy
Ease of use? Great, was apprehensive of the 5 blades but moisture bars helped a lot
Legs feel soft? Yes and so smooth
Smell? A light shea butter and vanilla scent. Pleasant.

Zomg! 5 blades? I get scared with 4 blades! Awesome review though. I'll be on the look out for a coupon for this so I can try it out.

Haha right?! 5 blades sounded crazy but it definitely did its job! I will be using it again to get a better gauge of my observed minuses. Thank you kapatwit!
