First Impression & About -

The first thing I did when I received these bottles was smell it and I immediately was a fan! It was fresh and slightly floral. I recently tested a conditioner that smelled wonderful from the bottle but after the shower the scent was faint or completely disappeared. I was hoping that this would not be the case for this duo samples.

I have a combination of curly and wavy hair which I wear straight majority of the time. From constantly using heating tools (like flat irons or curling irons), I feel that my hair may be moderately dry and damaged and having a product that helps rehabilitate my hair back to health.

By visiting Clear's website you can test if your hair strength.

First, remove a strand of hair from above your ear. Be sure to grab it firmly as close to the root as possible to keep the hair strand in its original state. If the strand breaks before you pull it out, your hair is definitely very weak-and you don't need to finish this test. In fact, you should give your scalp & hair treatment right now. Next, hold the strand of hair between your index finger and your thumb.
Using your other hand, run your fingernail down the strand from the top to the end till it springs into a curl. Pull the strand of curly hair taut for a few seconds and release. If it goes back to the curly position? Good news! Your hair has a great level of strength and is in good condition. If it becomes straight or springs back into looser or more curls, it means your hair is weak and needs treatment.
A great place to start is by providing your hair with the nourishment it needs. And don't forget your scalp as a well-nourished scalp is the right foundation for strong, beautiful hair. (source)

This was a great resource on determining where your hair is before beginning this treatment. I did the quick test above and my hair was in dire need of a reviving strengthening treatment.

Did you know the secrets of the scalp?

Your scalp is typically described as having five layers. You can remember them by this easy acronym.
SCALP:

S = SKIN
C = CONNECTIVE TISSUE
A = APONEUROSIS
L = LOOSE AREOLAR CONNECTIVE TISSUE
P = PERIOSTEUM
When it comes to scalp nourishment, it is the first three layers that are the most significant. The first layer is the one that contains hair follicles and oil glands-both of which can be easily clogged. Gently scrub your scalp regularly to release clogs.
* The second layer is the connective tissue that houses the blood vessels and nerves. To improve blood circulation and encourage healthy hair growth, you should give yourself a regular scalp massage.
The aponeurosis is the third layer a tough layer of dense fibrous tissue that the walls of your blood vessels are firmly attached to, making it a harder place for nutrients to reach.
*Some interesting tidbits. Did you know the average human scalp has over 100,000 hairs? At any given time, 10% of your hair is in what we call a "resting phase". Speaking of rest, vacations are good for you-and your hair. Stress can cause hair loss. But don't worry, in most cases stress related hair loss is reversible. *And blondes have the maximum number of hairs. Perhaps this is why they have more fun? All in all, the scalp is one of the most fascinating parts of the human body.

The test -

In the shower, I applied a half dollar size amount of shampoo into my damp hair and massaged the shampoo into my scalp for a minute then working down to the roots. I added more shampoo (about a quarter size) at a time to ensure there was a good lather and rinsed. For an extra initial deep cleanse, I repeated the shampoo process again.

Once my hair was completely rinsed from the second shampoo application, I took the same amount of conditioner and massaged into my scalp for a minute or so then working down to the roots. I continued to add more conditioner when needed to ensure saturation of product. After finishing my other shower needs (around 5 minutes), I rinsed the conditioner out of my hair while I continued to massage my scalp and hair.

With my usual routine of drying, applying a leave in conditioner and combing, I enjoyed getting whiffs of the smell of Clear in my hair and proceeded to style my hair as usual. For the next two days, my hair continued to smell great and it felt there was a slight positive difference.

I continued to use the bottle samples for the recommended 7 consecutive uses (I don't wash my hair daily) to get the true results by retesting my hair with the strength test. After taking the test, my hair strand showed positive improvements of stronger hair!

Overall, I am satisfied with the results that the Clear total care shampoo and conditioner had given and the great long lasting smell was such a pleasant perk. I am excited about where my hair currently is and I look forward to continuing this streak.

As a bonus, a tip from a celebrity hair stylist, Christophe Saluzzo says-

By scrolling to the bottom of Clear's website, you will find a 5 minute 'how-to' scalp massage treatment to stimulate a healthier scalp.
