What is mineral makeup?
Bare Escentuals started what it dubbed “the mineral revolution” when it launched its loose powder foundations in the mid 70s. Competing brands soon followed, all offering the claim that mineral makeup, made from crushed pure minerals, was more “natural” than conventional makeup.
What makes mineral makeup different from traditional makeup isn’t the ingredients it contains, but what’s left out. That list, for many leading brands, includes preservatives, parabens, mineral oil, chemical dyes, and fragrance. These are all possible causes of irritation, one reason many dermatologists recommend mineral makeup.

The Test-
I received a limited edition Earth day 2012 eye candy mineral eye shadow early this month. When swatching this eye shadow on the back of my hand it was a pigmented medium forest green color with a slight hint of flecks.
The day after I received it, I began playing with testing the Earth Day and I was initially concerned. With my shadow brush, I dipped it into the eyeshadow container and I applied the shadow on a bare dry lid with a patting motion to pack on the most color. I did this a couple of times to have the color pop and finished the rest of my makeup. The color was such a pretty color with a surprisingly matte finish. That day we went to see the Easter bunny and it was a lovely 70 degree day in Las Vegas. My concern was after 2 hours, I noticed that the shadow had creased tremendously and the color had faded. This was disconcerting because the claim of crease free and long lasting color was out the door.
I wanted to ensure that my initial test was a fluke so I did another day with Earth Day using the same method of patting the color on. Once again, 2 hours later the color on my lid creased and I needed some explanation. I emailed the Ferro Cosmetics team describing what I was doing and they suggested a few tips. They offered to brushing on product to lid instead of patting and dry skin is harder for product to adhere to so applying light moisturizer.
I always wear a primer before applying eye shadow but for the sake of testing this product, I proceeded to apply the product in a 'windshield' motion on a dry bare lid and what a difference! The color stayed on without creasing and expecting less vibrancy of color after more than 15 hours this product stayed put! To test waterproof abilities, I took water to my fingers and tried to rub the shadow off. Instead of shadow rubbing off, I had the remnants of my mascara smeared on my face with shadow still intact.

- will it be long lasting? YES, over 15 hours and took makeup remover to remove!
- will it give me the color pay off i'm looking for? Yes, very build-able product! Go as sheer or as dark as you want!
- will it be easy to apply? It is easy to apply but a certain technique needs to be done so that it meets the product's claim.

I really like this product! It did all it claimed and it was great to know that I was using a natural product! I would really love to try more Ferro products because they have gained a fan in me with this wonderful product!

In short -
Packaging - Wrapped in cute patterned tissue, the container had a black twist cover and a clear plastic base. Lid had the Ferro logo and bottom container had label with name of eyeshadow and ingredients. Easy to un-assemble - twist lid then remove sticker covering the mini square openings to the product.
Texture - refined smooth texture
Ease of use - Yes, but proper application will get the full benefits of the product. Easy to tap product out.
Smell - unscented
