The Many Uses of Ivory

What smell reminds you of your childhood? For me it's the light scent of an Ivory bar soap. During my younger years, it was primarily used for bathing (although I've learned that there are other uses for this soap) and left soft skin with a lovely light scent.

Ivory Bar Soap

Free of dyes and heavy perfumes, Ivory provides a simple, yet effective clean for the entire family (without breaking the bank!).

Ivory bar soap is 99.44% pure (it floats!).  Beyond using it as a body cleanser, many of Ivory's loyal users – not to mention a few celebrities – swear by Ivory as their beauty secret. In fact, many consumers use Ivory bar soap as a facial cleanser.  It provides healthier, smoother and more even-looking skin. Also, its versatility makes it an effective laundry soap (just chip soap flakes into the washer) as well as a spot stain remover on your clothes (including delicate items). Ivory bars can even be used for a fun soap carving project with the family!

When it comes to motherhood,  Ivory (the clean & simple soap) knows that being a mom has become more complex than ever, and that moms are looking for ways to simplify their lives. According to a survey of 1,000+ moms conducted by Wakefield Research on Ivory’s behalf in October 2011, 80% of American moms think motherhood is more complicated today than it was 20 years ago, despite the thousands of items supposedly designed to “simplify” their lives. But, while they may be more stressed out and busier than ever, almost 90% of moms think they’re doing a better job balancing it all than their mothers did. Some other interesting stats:

· 30% of moms surveyed found the most complicated aspect of motherhood was finding more "me" time, 66% confessed to hiding in their bathroom for some alone time.
· 75% feel the pressure to make every outing, playdate, or experience a "teachable moment," which can create great pressure
· 70% of moms feel they don’t have everything together, despite others thinking that they do.

As a result of these findings, Ivory created a Facebook community where everyday moms can share tips with one another on ways to simplify life for themselves and their families.

Find your Ivory now at your nearest retailer, including stores such as Walmart and Target as well as any major grocery, dollar and drug store.
A 10-pack of Ivory bar soap retails for around  $4.49 (bath bar size).

The Real Deal Concealer. Need Serious Coverage?

As many of you are already familiar, I LOVE concealers! It is my holy grail/can't leave home without product! I've done reviews on the Sheer Cover and Coverblend Concealer, which both have been through my testing process of what my ideal concealer is.

I was able to test Laura Geller's 'my real deal concealer' to determine if it meets my expectations of an ideal concealer.

Criteria of my 'Perfect' concealer -

  • Match my skin tone
  • Cover up the darkness under my eyes
  • Reduce the look of puffiness under eyes
  • Cover up redness/blemish for past pimples
  • One product to do all
First let's get to know Laura Geller.

The key to Laura Geller’s success seems to lie somewhere in between her tenured beauty expertise and her warm, approachable and “best friend in the biz” personality. Not happy just being one of the industry’s most recognized and talented makeup artists, Laura has made a career out of infusing glamour into every girl’s day with multi-tasking, “ingenious” products that are easy-to-use solutions for every day beauty concerns. That’s because Laura takes her consumers’ needs and wants into consideration every time she develops a product…guaranteeing multi-functional, beauty that fits into every woman’s daily life.
The Brains Behind No Brainer BeautyFrom an early age, Laura knew her future would be in makeup. "I used to ask if I could work at the makeup counters for free just so I could be near the products," she explains. Her path to becoming one of the industry’s top makeup artists swiftly followed as she went from beauty school to Broadway – making up the theater industries rising stars. Soon after, Geller's handy work was gracing the small screen including on-air talent at CBS, NBC, AMC, and HB0. Today, Laura is most often seen in front of the camera through her many QVC appearances in the US and Europe. Her exceptional ability in connecting with her viewers with her authentic persona has been a key to her success and led to a cult following for her brand.
Laura Geller Makeup StudioIn 1993, Laura opened Laura Geller Makeup Studios on New York City's posh Upper East Side. The Studio’s purpose was simple: to teach women the how-to of cosmetics and hands-on technique to master it. Laura sought to simplify makeup application. "I saw a void in the makeup industry. Women didn't know how to apply makeup, so I wanted to communicate my knowledge and experience," she says. Today, the studio is a showcase for Laura’s eponymous line of cosmetics and is also where those in the know flock for 5-star makeup application, brow shaping and more.
Laura’s high-spirited, down-to-earth personality oozes from every corner of the studio ~ from complimentary coffee and cookies offered as soon as you walk through the door to the hand-picked selection of products, candles and accessories on display. The fashionable, never intimidating and highly knowledgeable staff skillfully takes customers through the line, provides expert makeup application advice and “editing” suggestions that reflect both “the basics” and “the best.” [source]

Neostrata CoverBlend Multi-Function Concealer SPF 15

Case of the raccoon eyes? That would be me! You know, without concealer your dark under eye areas make you resemble those furry little guys!

I recently shared a review about a concealer from Sheer Cover which I thought was good.

As I previously mentioned, here are my criterium of my 'Perfect' concealer -

  • Match my skin tone
  • Cover up the darkness under my eyes
  • Reduce the look of puffiness under eyes
  • Cover up redness/blemish for past pimples
  • One product to do all
Prior to testing the Sheer Cover concealer, I was able to test the Neostrata CoverBlend Multi-function concealer SPF 15  for a month.

Who is Neostrata

The creators of NeoStrata Company, Inc., Drs. Van Scott and Yu are internationally recognized for making the groundbreaking discovery that Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) have profound beneficial effect on human skin. Their passion and vision led to their subsequent research which established AHAs are not only beneficial in the treatment of dermatological conditions, but are also effective in stimulating prematurely aged or damaged skin to actually rejuvenate itself, thereby revolutionizing the treatment of aging skin.

Mally Perfect Prep Poreless Primer [Review]

Do you know the importance of using primers in your makeup application?

Using a makeup primer is the best way to make your makeup stay put on for longer. The makeup primers are relatively new products on the market but now are gaining more and more popularity. Their aim is to prepare the skin for the makeup application, they pamper the skin and create a protective base for longer- lasting, natural looking foundation application and wear. [source]

So I was able to test and create this review on Mally Beauty's Perfect Prep Poreless Primer.

So let's start out by finding out who Mally Beauty is?
Mally Beauty was founded by celebrity makeup artist, Mally Roncal.

Makeup Obsessed Inspirations..

I have had a growing obsession with makeup over the last two years and even aspired to be a makeup artist of some sort. I picked up photography a little over two years ago and aspired to do makeup for  the photo shoots that I did.

A little over a year ago, I convinced two of the closest ladies in my life to let me do their makeup/hair and then photograph them. They were my baby bff and one of my sisters.

My sister, Shanah

The Goods: Favorites Swap [Updated]

Some time in April, I saw a retweeted status update by @officialstinad of Linny's Favorites Swap blog post and I was immediately intrigued.

Taking queue from Linny's post, here was how it worked:

With a $15 spending max, purchase your favorite things (lip gloss, nail polish, lotion, candy, gift card, candle, movie, book, magazine, etc) and send them to your swap buddy.
  • Must be able to send your swap buddy a package of goodies
  • You must be willing to spend up to $15 (before shipping).
  • Partners will be randomly matched up
  • Your package must be in the mail by a certain date
I was the coordinator of this fave swap and I changed up how swap buddies were chosen. Each person didn't know who had them and it was kept as a secret until favorite packages were received!

Are YOU due for a Deep Cleaning.....

On your makeup brushes??

It is suggested to deep clean your makeup brushes on a monthly basis but more often if you don't clean your brushes after each use!

Did you know...
Not properly cleansing brushes encourages the harboring of bacteria and oils that promote breakouts, a less than even makeup application, resulting in muddy, dull colors, and shortens the lifespan of your brushes. [source]

Review: Earth Day 2012 mineral eyeshadow by Ferro Cosmetics

What is mineral makeup?
Bare Escentuals started what it dubbed “the mineral revolution” when it launched its loose powder foundations in the mid 70s. Competing brands soon followed, all offering the claim that mineral makeup, made from crushed pure minerals, was more “natural” than conventional makeup.
What makes mineral makeup different from traditional makeup isn’t the ingredients it contains, but what’s left out. That list, for many leading brands, includes preservatives, parabens, mineral oil, chemical dyes, and fragrance. These are all possible causes of irritation, one reason many dermatologists recommend mineral makeup.
Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are both physical sun blocks, so a uniform application of mineral makeup will provide some sun protection. “It’s sufficient for those days when you’re just running a few errands outside.." [webmd]

Shopping addiction gone good?

I've been obsessed with buying different beauty products lately like Lipsticks, bronzers, concealers, false lashes, etc. The obsession has gotten to the point where I haven't been able to use many of the items I've bought yet. Along with purchased items, I haven't used many of the products received in my monthly boxes (birchbox, gogogirlfriend, etc) too. Eeek!

As an April challenge, I am committing to using at least one of the products in my 'have not used yet' container and reporting a weekly video/blog on what items they were with my thoughts. New week begins on Sunday and reporting will be on Monday for previous week.

January (?) Gogogirlfriend Unboxing

Hello Beauts!

Here is my January Gogogirlfriend unboxing. This box was meant to be a December box but only received it last week. Boo!

The items received were:
  • Comodynes self tanning
  • Blossoms Lip gloss in sunset
  • Blossoms Lip pencil in current
  • Blossoms all natural shea butter soap in Brazilian Jasmine
  • Renu Derma creamy cleanser
  • Blum facial cleanser
  • Gogo Girlfriend floating candle
  • Spa Terry Cloth adjustable headband

Thoughts on Gogogirlfriend as a company and its products:

This is my second box with GGG and I am not a fan of the company and its products. I feel that they have bad customer service and the products aren't very high quality with comparison to Birchbox.

The monthly subscription payment is taken during the middle of the month and you don't receive a box until the middle of next month. For this box, they deducted the $12.99 in the middle of December and I didn't receive this box until last week. I think that's ridiculous!

The products are items that I wouldn't purchase on an everyday basis, which is the nice thing about these monthly boxes - the discovery of new products. I could see that the total value of the products sent were worth the $12.99 paid.

I ordered a discounted deluxe box during the first couple weeks of December and I will do an unboxing for that once I get it! But for the time being, I have decided to cancel my membership with GGG.

Have you been with GGG for more than 2 months? How do you like it? What do you think of their customer service?

New Beauty Boxes - GGG & Julep Maven

Omg! My obsession grows with these monthly beauty box subscriptions!!

I've been a member of Birchbox for over 6 months now and have gotten 2 quarterly New Beauty Test Tubes which I love because I get a box every month with some really fun beauty items! I can't get enough! Goodness!

I received 2 new boxes on December 7th from Gogo Girlfriend and Julep.

Gogo Girlfriend is a beauty box membership that costs $12.99 to receive a box monthly of 6 or more products, discounts on products through their website and you get to qualify to be part of giveaways.

Thoughts - First impression isn't positive so far. They indicate that they are big on customer service but their delay in getting tracking information after 2 weeks (based off the FAQ section of their site) from signing up has contradicted this. I had to email them 3 weeks after my sign up date of November 2nd and they replied quickly to say that they will contact their warehouse to let them know that I contacted the company. I finally received my tracking email for my shipment on December 2nd and then received my first box on December 7th. Wow, really? This was meant to be a November box but I received it in December. World's different from Birchbox. Although some may receive their Birchbox late in the month, at least its in the month that the box was supposed to be received on.

In my unboxing, I was not impressed with my first box and was not super duper excited with any of the products. I had viewed previous videos on youtube of previous months and they had some great items. I will say that these items seem to be worth more than the $12.99 I spent. They debited money from my account for 'December' box already, so I will see how I like the next 'regular' box along with the the deluxe box I placed an order for in the beginning of this month. I will keep you posted.
