Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen

Summer brings on fun-in-the-sun activities such as being pool side, going to the beach, hiking, etc but we can't forget about protecting and moisturizing our skin!

In a previous post about the importance of hydrating our skin, I shared that by keeping skin moisturized it avoids premature aging and helps keep our skin hydrated. I know aging is inevitable but if I can be proactive with avoiding signs of premature aging from showing up, then why not! 



Remember to take care of your skin in the sun with these sun facts (source):

• Protecting your skin is important
  Sun protection keeps your skin looking its best – the harmful effects of UV rays build up over time.
  Make sun care a part of your daily routine.
• Be sure to apply a luxurious amount
  Your face requires about a teaspoon of sunscreen for the best coverage, while your arms and legs
  require about a tablespoon. Adjust accordingly for the torso. For maximum protection, wait for it to
  soak in (15 to 30 minutes) before indulging in the sun.
• Reapply often, at least every two hours
  Sweating, swimming, and towel drying can remove sunscreen from your skin's surface, so be sure
  to reapply and lather up when needed.
• Achieve your perfect color by being sun smart
  If you are looking for a glow, make sure it's a healthy one. Start by using a high SPF to build color
  slowly and safely.
• Remember that timing is everything
  The sun is strongest between the hours of 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, so be extra sure to protect yourself
  during these hours.

The Test -

Prior to receiving this sample, I already had 3 bottles of Hawaiian Tropic products - A dry tanning pump spray and 2 different tanning lotions. So I can say that i'm familiar with this product.

During hot weather, I enjoy tanning and prefer using a tanning lotion with a lower SPF when I am laying out. To test, on the days I was out in the sun and not tanning I used this new bottle of Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration SPF 30. 

Upon flipping the cap open and taking a whiff of this sunscreen, I immediately thought of laying poolside tanning and hot summer days. Isn't that neat how a smell can remind you of different things? A mixture of coconut and light floral scent was right on point with their description of this bottle being a 'warm tropical fragrance'. 

On the first day of testing, I was wearing a tank top maxi dress and focused on applying the sunscreen on my arms, shoulders and chest. As someone who tans easily, I didn't want to have a tan line of the dress I was wearing. I started by squeezing a quarter size at a time into my palm and applied the lotion unto the areas of concern of my skin. The lotion was creamy, nicely fragranced, not greasy after application and absorbed into my skin quickly with a light after feel.

After returning home from two hours of running errands, I did smell the lotion through out that time and I continued to be pleased with the scent. I also liked how soft my skin felt and I caught myself grazing my fingers across my arm to feel the softness. 

Since I was done with being outdoors for that day, I felt that the lotion continued to keep my skin moisturized by keeping it soft. I continued to use this lotion for the next three errand outings keeping the 2oz sample bottle in my purse/diaper bag before creating this review.

Overall, I enjoyed the smell and consistency of this sunscreen lotion. I liked that there are three SPF levels to choose from and this brand has been around for a long time.
